Janet Cashin was ordained on December 1, 2002, at St. Christopher’s Church in Burlington, beginning her ministry at Holy Trinity, Chippawa. Her sense of vocation, however, reaches back to her youth. A high‑school visit to the Sisters of St. John the Divine in London, Ontario, left her with a lasting impression of a life grounded in faith and service.
Before entering ordained ministry, Janet built a diverse and fulfilling career. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Education from Western, then spent many years with CIBC, eventually moving into the training department—where she met her husband, David. After both retired, they settled in Queenston in 1993, and Janet joined St. Saviour’s as a parishioner. She later completed a Certificate in Theology through the Montreal Diocesan Theological College (McGill University), and with the encouragement of Bishop Walter Asbil, discerned a call to ordination.
After nearly a decade serving in Chippawa, Janet stepped back from full‑time ministry to care for her husband. Not long after, she received an invitation to “come home” to St. Saviour’s—this time as Priest‑in‑Charge. She has served joyfully in that role since 2012.
Janet and David have travelled widely, especially throughout the Mediterranean and Ireland, where his large family welcomed them often. At the heart of her ministry is a simple, steady hope: helping people recognize the presence of the divine in their own lives and in the world around them, by helping them make a connection to something beyond themselves.
When she isn’t preparing a homily, Janet enjoys watching soccer, cheering for the Buffalo Bills, and watching BritBox. She delights in the company of her two elderly dogs, Sophie and Picasso, who continue to bring joy to her days.
Janet continues to serve St. Saviour’s with gratitude, compassion, and a deep love for the community she calls home.
Michael’s musical journey began in England, where he trained as a choral scholar at Hereford Cathedral and later studied Voice, Theory, and Organ at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His credentials include a Licentiate from the Royal Academy of Music, an Associateship with the Royal College of Music, and a teaching diploma from the University of London. After immigrating to Canada, he completed his B.A. (Hons.) in Music at Brock University.
His career in education has been equally rich. After several posts in the U.K., Michael came to Canada in 1972 to serve as Director of Music at Ridley College. He later held the same role at Albert College before returning to Ridley as Coordinator of the Arts. Throughout these years, he built strong choral and instrumental programs and led memorable choir tours to Europe, giving students the chance to experience music on a global stage.
Beyond the classroom, Michael has been deeply involved in the wider choral community. A Past President of Choirs Ontario, he has sung professionally with the Elora Festival Singers, conducted workshops, adjudicated festivals, and supported touring ensembles as a travel consultant.
His church work spans several Anglican parishes, including St. Timothy’s and St. Matthew’s in Toronto and St. Mark’s in Niagara‑on‑the‑Lake. Though he has “retired” more than once, Michael joyfully accepted the role of Organist at St. Saviour’s, Queenston, in 2022—and we are grateful he did.
At St. Saviour's Church, pastoral care is a central part of our ministry. We offer compassionate support to individuals and families through every stage of life—whether you are seeking prayer, guidance, or simply someone to listen. Our clergy are honoured to walk with you in moments of joy through baptisms and weddings, and to provide comfort and dignity during times of loss through funeral and burial services. In all things, we strive to be a place of care, hope, and connection for our community.
